Montclair
The welcoming Montclair District, set among the pine trees of Oakland's upper hills, exudes a cool and relaxed mountain vibe reminiscent of Mill Valley, Marin County. Large homes are tucked away in their own little forests, with views of the bay off in the distance, and the streets are narrow and lined with trees and flowering gardens.
Montclair's rural allure stems from the fact that it is both a quiet bedroom community and a place where people can get their fix of excitement. Its proximity to numerous East Bay parks means that there are countless chances to get out on two wheels and take in the region's stunning mountain scenery.
Real estate in Montclair is spread out the canyons, and the buildings are made to look like they belong in the landscape. Acre-sized lots are possible for some clients. There are many different architectural styles represented here, from period revivals and ranch houses from the 1950s through the 1970s to large Craftsman bungalows, shingle cottages, and Prairie homes from the early 20th century.
Montclair, with its winding streets and abundance of lush vegetation in places like Fernwood, is a peaceful haven. The Storybook Houses of the Fernwood Walking Tour takes guests along a popular Oakland trick-or-treat route. Every year in October, a tour of some of the area's most beautiful and skillfully crafted homes is held.
Lake Temescal Park, located on the northern edge of the neighborhood, is an excellent place for picnics, Frisbee games, and brief strolls through the woods. Montclair Village, a charming collection of independently owned businesses, serves as the town's primary commercial hub. Melt Massage is a great place to unwind and reenergize, and the Montclair Egg Shop on Medau just off of Mountain Blvd. is a fun and whimsical place to stop for a hearty breakfast.
Every day at the Oakland Library's Montclair Branch on Mountain Boulevard, you can continue your literary journey through Oakland. There is a lovely children's reading room here, perfect for nestling up with a good book. In 1930, a small library with 900 square feet was constructed in the Oakland hills, not far from where Montclair Village was beginning to take shape. Because of the growing interest in children's services, the Montclair Library branch was expanded twice to its current size of 3,900 square feet.
There is also a cultural arts center, a weekly farmer's market, a wonderful public park with activities that appeal to everyone from small kids to athletes, and annual street fairs in the heart of the village.
